Traditionally, anyone wanting to become a member of a Masonic Lodge had to know someone who was already one. There was even a catchy phrase: “2B1ASK1”, which meant “To be one, ask one!”.

These days, with the advent of social media and the way our society interacts and communicates, things move slightly differently from days gone by. This doesn’t mean that the Masonry we practice today in Bristol is modernised in any way, far from it!

Bristol has a proud tradition of still working the same ritual that it did when it first started out around 200 years ago. We learn our ritual by heart, not even having ritual books as most of the country does.
